Postanotice bulletin board consists of 12 categories. Here are some descriptions and explanations.

activities

Activities are different from meetings and events - usually small in scale and often centered around athletic, cultural, or social interactions, e.g. activity partners, hobbies, entertainment forums. There is no fee for posting in activities.

Examples: classes, sports, arts, interest clubs, hiking, weekly card game, playing music, swimming, picnics, cycling, running, travel, voice lessons, tennis partner, holiday partner, theatergoer, Frisbee, language lessons, opera, yoga group, dinner parties, etc.

Activities can be automatically added to communities category by clicking the box, "Also post in community."

communities

Community brings several functions together into one place (see below). There is no fee for posting in communities.

Business Start-ups - start-up businesses looking for people, or interested persons looking to start a business. Networking - seeking others to participate in the early stages of development.

Community, Descriptions - backyard, sustainable, or Intentional. Represent the community you live in, and the people who live there. Describe and picture.

Community, Start/Opening - people interested in forming "intentional community." This term is over 40 years old and simply refers to a group of people living with the intent of pursuing common interests or expressing certain values, whatever they may be. Examples are many and varied: cohousing and other cooperatives or condos, ecovillages, residential land trusts, spiritual or ideological communities, student co-ops, egalitarian.

Help - Action Needed - urgent requests requiring immediate help, e.g. Amnesty International's global Urgent Action network, an action or organization in desperate straights, a whistle blower under attack, or other injustice about to occur. Direct assistance needed by people or groups under immediate threat - where the assistance needed is identified.

Housing Share, Vacation Swap - people wishing to share housing, or vacation-swap.

Mentoring Services - organizations that provide mentoring.

Support Group - groups that provide support to individuals either online, or in person.

Volunteers, Apprenticeships, Internships - available positions; people needed. Organizations that supply volunteers should post in Resources.

events

Events are usually larger in scale than activities; less personal, more public, and occurring only for a single period of time. There is no fee for posting in events.

Examples: expositions, exhibitions, demonstrations, fairs, shows, retrospectives, conventions, block parties, fundraisers, performing arts, concerts, etc.

housing

Apartment Rental, Condos, Cohousing, Co-ops, Lot/Vacant Land, Multiple Family House, Single Family House. Shared living, and vacation swaps are listed in Community.

jobs

Full or part-time work that is financially compensated.

If you are considering starting a business, and looking for those similarly inclined, post your notice in community.

media

Items can be for sale, HOWEVER a notice should emphasize the media form presented, rather than the business presenting the media, e.g. a record company representing several performers should post in merchandise, while a CD representing a single performer can post in media. There is no fee for posting in media, or merchandise.

Books, Online/print; Crafts; Fabric; Games, Toys; Journals; Magazine/zine, Comic; Multimedia; Music/sound/voice; Newspaper, Newsletter, Email/list; Painting, Drawing, Sculpture; Performance; Photography; Poster, Sticker, Tee Shirt, Button; Radio; Video, Film, Television; Other/Misc.

meetings

Meetings are different from activities and events - usually relatively small discussion forums, on-going and scheduled. There is no fee for posting in meetings.

Example: a group discussing the need to raise money - as compared to the practice of public speaking (activity), or a fund-raiser (event).

merchandise

Buy, sell, trade, or donate merchandise - by individuals or businesses. There is no fee for posting in merchandise.

personals

Person-to-person connections for social reasons - dating, sharing interests, social networking (e.g. new to the area, pen-pals). There is no fee for posting in personals.

Both Area of Interest, and specific personal interests can be included in the posting and search criteria. For example, one could select an Area of Interest, "Ecology, Environment," and a Specific Interest, "Marshlands."

resources

Resources - providing help, support and local resource listings, presented by individuals and organizations. There is no fee for posting in resources.

resumes

Describe your skills, training, experience, and education. List, and search by Interests/Skills. There is no fee for posting in resumes.

services

Services are typically functions performed, as compared to items for sale in merchandise. There is no fee for posting in services.

Notice title - searchable from main page. Consider including business name and words describing any unique characteristics of the service.

Zip code - enter Zip codes when location is local.

Service type - most significant search criteria.

Area of interest - include this for more specialized searches. Not required.
